• The Breville BES860XL has exchanged the hot water dispenser for a bean grinder. The Breville BES860XL is a fully automatic espresso machine with the advanced automatic feature of grinding a pre-measure of beans for each individual brew. Note, the Breville BES860XL is not a complete automatic machine as there is still a need to manually mount the portafilter into the group head, and clean the filter afterwards. The Breville BES860XL is as automatic as possible whilst being able to control the process of thee coffee making procedure.
• The box that the Breville BES860X comes in has appealing graphics. The ‘get started guide’ and images provide positive direction when setting up the unit. The Breville BES860XL is also easy to remove from the packaging.
• The tamper on the Breville BES860XL is magnetically held in place on the front of the machine which means it can be used in its place, or it can be removed for manual tamping.
  On the Breville BES860XL there is a dry puck feature which removes excess water giving a dry puck as the end result.

• A least favourable aspect of the Breville BES860XL grinder is that it is slightly difficult to clean. It can be taken apart, as far as getting the stator blades out from around the burr .The part of the Breville BES860XL that jams is the feed paddles that push grounds out of the area under the grinder, into the top of the chute that feeds the espresso head in its holder.
  This part of the Breville BES860XL is nearly impossible to get to. When the grinder jams, it becomes necessary to vacuum out the coffee beans and grounds with the blade head on a vacuum cleaner then go further with a combination of toothpicks, pipe cleaners, and dust-free canned “air”.
• It is advisable to run the clean cycle on the Breville BES860XL when the “clean me” light comes on, but this may be on a fixed timer. By using reverse-osmosis water, there should not be any issues with boiler scale.

If it is expected to put in some beans and press a button on the Breville BES860XL, there will be disappointment. The Breville BES860XL takes some time and creativity to make the best espresso shot. Once the right combinations are found, there is much pleasure to be gained from use. Different coffee brands require different settings for the best shot using the Breville BES860XL.

Some users also advise to pre-warm the head of the Breville BES860XL by running some water through first. Since one shot is 30-45ml, the shot will get cold fast if you do not place it in a warm glass and make it with a pre warmed head. It is also necessary to tamp it sufficiently to achieve higher pressures. Following these guidelines means the Breville BES860XL will not disappoint.
