• The Breville 800ESXL is beautiful and solid. It has many nice features such as an integral storage bin for ingredients, plus a steam wand that swivels.
• The Breville 800ESXL uses a thermoblock. The machine produces good espresso which overcomes some of its component shortcomings with nice engineering (such as the auto-purge feature to avoid scalding the grounds). If the coffee is ground too fine, even once, the filter clogs. Due to the design of the crema filter, there is an inaccessible “interior” between the coffee-side filter holes and the bottom-side single exit hole. If this gets too clogged, there is really nothing to do except get a new filter for the Breville 800ESXL, as the clog is not reachable with any tool.
• After one year of use it was found that the Breville 800ESXL still functions well.

The Cons:

• As suggested in the manual, it is necessary to unplug the machine after every use. If not, the Breville 800ESXL has a low humming sound coming from it which means that the machine was not fully off.
• There is some vibration and noise coming from the Breville 800ESXL but this is reduced by placing the machine on a folded towel to absorb the vibration, whilst soaking up any spillage. The Breville 800ESXL Commercial 15-Bar Triple-Priming Die-Cast Espresso Machine is a great starter machine. A Breville 800ESXL makes nice hot shots quickly. The main problem as many have noted, is that the stock basket clogs very easily with standard espresso grind. It is still possible to get good shots with a coarser grind, but the puck is sloppy and wet and makes cleaning the grouphead more difficult. The Breville 800ESXL also does take a little time to get use to, and it is worth following the manual to ensure operation and coffees are consistent.
